With the bees settling in for the winter, it is difficult to come up with a weekly topic. My first ever post here was a pun on the alphabet: A Bee Sees. So I thought it might be fun to do a weekly alphabet post, from A through Z.
Today is the letter A, for Apiary.
An apiary, as you probably know, is a place where bees are kept. It comes from the Latin apis (for bee) and apiarium (place for bees). Here is my freshly created apiary back in 2015, complete with embedded caption. I originally thought I could keep a garden next to the bees, but that quickly proved more work and effort that I was able to do.

More recently, a view from within the apiary. It is quite a bit overgrown, and this year I endeavored to mulch the ground with cardboard and wood chips. It is a work in progress, but it has helped keep the weeds down. You can see that the outside fence is pretty well overgrown now. I figure the growth is a good winter wind break, and hope to have someone help me clear it out in the spring.

That’s my letter A. Hope you enjoyed.
May you prosper and find honey.
